Yesterday my friend Gillian and I went to Alterknit cafe on 1024 St. Clair West. The place was packed with knitters and it made me feel a little intimidated but a bit at home to hear different conversations full of knitting patterns. Gillian got a cappuccino and I got myself a latte and it tasted superb. I love latte's made from a manual espresso machine as oppose to an automatic one. I really enjoyed the snacks they were passing around. They had some fruit/vegetable platter, crackers and cheese, chips and salsa :) It made me realize just how important it is to eat while working away on a project.
They had a wonderful selection of yarns and needles. I'm glad we got a chance to check it out. There was this $20.00 sock yarn I really wanted to get. Maybe next time :)

My finished mittens
I finally uploaded the photos of the mittens I made :) I really like how they feel. They're warm and soft, however the weather has been pretty warm the past week so I haven't been able to wear them out.
Here are some photos

who knew...
My ASM Gabe just informed me of yet another knitting shop/cafe on queen street east called The Purple Purl. Is this worth checking out?

The Weekend
I've taken a break on my thigh-high leg warmers. On Friday I decided to take out the two 50g balls of mirasol sulka wool I bought at Romni Wools during their boxing day sale to make me a pair of mittens. Yup that's right! I finally made myself a pair of mittens *yay*
I finished the pair of Mittens yesterday (Saturday) when I was visiting my cousins in Mississauga.
I also made a trip to Michael's in Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga to see if they had any Lion Brand Cashmere. They did not :( I also noticed that they stopped carrying Lion Brand Wool Ease Chunky. This also made me very sad. But I did get a chance to take a look at the new yarns Lion Brand came out with called Vanna's choice. This silvery, icey grey color really caught my attention however I didn't know what I was going to use for it so I didn't get any. I did however pick up some more Bernat Softee Chunky for Emilia and Khristine (The cousins) because they too want me to make them Thigh-high leg warmers.I also bought a ball of red Bernat Satin to finally make my Assistant manager a pair of red mittens. Don't know if she's going to get much use of them though cause the weather is going up here in Toronto.
I then went to my house in Mississauga and finally dished out the rest of my yarn stash that once used to be my closet and had a knitting conversation with Meaghann. She showed me sock yarn she had and started trying to give me ideas on what to use for all the yarn I builded up over the years. I had a couple balls of Patons Shetland Chunky. Meaghann had a patons pattern book for socks using patons shetland chunky and I've got a grey that I'd like to use for a pair of socks. I also managed to get the rest of my straight needles :) I love my boyfriend for helping me organize them and put them together when we were cleaning my once upon a time room in Mississauga.
Today I took a trip to Romni Wools to use up my $15 left of my gift certificate and bought me two 50g of Mirasol sotanani, a ball of Peruvia and a ball of Misti Alpaca. I am thinking of making a scarf but my gut feeling tells me that I do not have enough yarn for a scarf. Those were my yarn adventures for the weekend.
Why is it that sometimes we get tired of projects we're working on and end up working on another one? Maybe it's called knitting A.D.D. hehehe

Alpaca/Cashmere thought...
It's 2008 and what I'd like to ring in the new year with is to knit with Alpaca/Cashmere yarns a lot more. I think I'm going to go on an Alpaca/Cashmere binge lol.
I'm thinking of using a lot more yarns by Debbie Bliss . Maybe I'll even purchase some of her books too.
That's my little knitting thought for the day.
